Step-by-Step Instructions

Step Instruction
1 Introduction & exploration: Place the red, yellow, and green rectangular strips on the table. Let the child explore and count items on each strip. Fold each strip to form a box; secure with tape (one red, one yellow, one green).
2 Prepare for the activity: Put all pompoms in a bowl and keep the activity sheet ready. Hand the child the tongs.
3 Explain the goal: “We’ll sort pompoms by colour and number.” Show how each coloured box relates to the jars on the sheet.
4 Identify colours & numbers: Ask: “What colour is this jar?” “What number is written on it?
5 Sort with tongs: Child uses tongs to pick the correct number of pompoms matching the jar’s colour (e.g., 5 red pompoms for the red 5 jar) and places them in the same-colour box.
6 Positive reinforcement: Praise often—“Great job!” “You’re sorting so well!
7 Guiding questions:Which jar has the most pompoms?” “How many pompoms did you put in the green jar?
