Materials Needed
- Activity board with a face outline of a boy, featuring Velcro in the center
- Four face expression cutouts with Velcro: Happy, Angry, Sad, Surprised
Step-by-Step Instructions
| Step | Instruction |
|---|---|
| 1 |
Introduce the Character Board: Show the child the board with the boy’s face and explain that today they will help the boy show different feelings using special face cutouts. |
| 2 |
Discuss Each Emotion: Introduce the four face cutouts—happy, angry, sad, and surprised. Briefly explain what each emotion looks like and when people may feel this way. Example: “We feel happy when we play with friends,” or “We might feel sad when we miss someone.” |
| 3 |
Free Expression or Guided Play: Ask the child, “How are you feeling today?” Encourage them to pick the face that shows their feeling and stick it on using the Velcro. Adults may also guide: “Can you show me a happy face?” and let the child choose the matching cutout. |
| 4 |
Match and Stick: The child selects the face that matches the emotion and places it on the Velcro spot. Ask them to explain why they chose that face if they can. |
| 5 |
Repeat and Explore: Continue the activity with different emotions or allow the child to change the face many times. Reinforce the names of emotions as they play and explore. |
